Meet Dr. Connie
Hello. I am Dr. Connie S. Newsome, a John Maxwell Team certified speaker, teacher, trainer, and coach. I am passionate about personal development in all its forms, but my specialties are coaching, teaching and training, for those activities are meant to empower and equip. There is nothing quite as satisfying as walking alongside someone as they become the person they want to be. If you have a goal you’re striving toward, or even if you’re just looking for some direction on your way, I want to partner with you in that process.

BIOGRAPHY
I truly enjoy the study of leadership and the opportunity to impact the lives of others. During my career, primarily in non-profit management and higher education administration, my main focus has been on process improvement, managing teams, and creating professional development opportunities that lead to proper team and organizational fit. My recent professional passions include the study of behavioral and communication drivers, leading to a recent certification in the John Maxwell D.I.S.C. Method of Behavioral Analysis.
I am passionate about volunteerism. With that, I have served as a Guardian Ad Litem for over 20 years, advocating for children who have been temporarily or permanently removed from their home due to abuse and or/ neglect. Active in professional organizations within education and leadership, I also serve as a Coach in ASCEND, a hybrid, executive leadership development program. I was elected and serve(d) as Vice-President at Large (present commitment) and Vice-Chair for the Nominations and Elections Committee (past commitment) for the American Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers and Board Secretary and Assistant Executive Director of the National Network of Law School Officers. I am a “JMTer,” committed to study and development from leadership expert Dr. John Maxwell.
Finally, having always lived a busy life between work, personal, and school commitments, I became intentional about self-care during my doctoral journey. However, it was just in 2023 that I coined the phrase “beneficial selfishness,” which I lovingly define as the concept of taking ownership of one’s own well-being, to the benefit of self and with the goal of positive engagement with one’s inner and outer circles. Beneficial selfishness is important because it impacts how we show up each day and moments within each day. Engaging the concept does not have to be long nor deep, it only needs to be impactful, leaving you feeling restored, a better version of yourself, every time.
I hold an Ed. D. in Educational Leadership, with a focus in Higher Education Administration, from Argosy University and a B.S. and an MPA, both from East Carolina University. I appreciate time to blog periodically and write articles, write poetry, watch action movies with my husband and Schnoodle, and fellowship around good food with beloved family and friends.
